Ugh It's Been Too Long

Due to a very long, boring story that you can read in my post The Health Care System Bites Donkey Dick at my blog Insanity Personified, otherwise known as Jane Doe's Musings, I have not posted a prompt here for a very, very long time. However, I do intend to start up again ASAP, as soon as I recover. I'm hoping that I will be posting here again by the 1st of November, if it turns out to be later than that, I will let you know.

Happy writing to everyone!

Saturday Free for All #16

Yes, I missed Tuesday's Theme this week. It was a long, hard week and I never got to it. My apologies.

In the Twin Cities area, we are currently experiencing a rousing round of severe storms. So, for the Saturday Free for All this week, I'm going to offer you this opening line:

The storm raged outside.

You take it from here!

Have a great weekend!

So, take it from there.

Random Prompt

Okay, I missed Tuesday's Theme yet again, so spank me. The kids have been monopolizing the computer so if I don't get it posted right away in the morning, I never get it posted. Okay, so the deal is, I'm going to post a random prompt to make up for missing Tuesday.

So, today's prompt is taken from my story, Gregory's Pen.

Create a character that finds a magickal object. What is it? How did he/she find it? What does it do? Does it come at a price? Does your character use it for good or evil?

So, yeah, that's my Random Prompt for this Thursday.

Have a great day!

Saturday Free For All #13

For today's prompt, I'm going to use a line from a Pink Floyd song:

You rearrange me till I'm sane.

Use this line in a poem, story, essay, or whatever, and leave your link here in the comments section. And please, leave a link to this post on your page.

Have a great weekend!

Tuesday's Theme #3

Yes, I realize it's Wednesday, but with the kids being home for the summer, I'm getting less and less computer time these days.

With the Summer Solstice coming up, I thought I would make

my theme for the week. Does this conjure images of swimming, family vacations, barbecues by the beach? Whatever summer means to you, put it into words, leave your link, and share your writing!

Have a great Wednesday!

Tuesday's Theme #1

I am going to do something a little bit different today. Instead of giving you a theme, I'm going to offer a first line for a poem, story, essay, blog post, or whatever. Take the following line, and add your words to it:

The moon rose over the slumbering world...

I hope that this stirs your creativity a bit. I know it stirred mine!

Have a great Tuesday!

Monday, June 2, 2008

I changed my prompt from Mondays to Tuesdays. Saturday and Monday were just too close together.

Saturday Free For All #10

Today, for my prompt I am using words from my favorite poem by Emily Dickinson.

Because I could not stop for Death—
He kindly stopped for me—
The Carriage held but just Ourselves—
And Immortality.

We slowly drove—He knew no haste
And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
For His Civility—

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess—in the Ring—
We passed the fields of Gazing Grain—
We passed the Setting Sun—

Or rather—He passed Us—
The Dews drew quivering and chill—
For only Gossamer, my Gown—
My Tippet—only Tulle—

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground—
The Roof was scarcely visible—
The Cornice—in the Ground—

Since then—'tis Centuries—and yet
Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses' Heads
Were toward Eternity—

The words I'm choosing for you to use in your poem, story, blog post, or essay are:

carriage, gossamer, swelling, eternity

I hope that these words inspire you!

Have a great weekend!

Random Prompt

Once again, I did not post Monday's Theme. I think I may switch it to Tuesday's or Wednesdays as Saturday and Monday are so close together. Anyway, here is a random prompt for you.

So Sorry

I haven't been posting prompts here as much as I'd like, and I apologize for being late once again with Monday's Theme. I have had this toothache from hell and haven't been on the computer much. But, here is Monday's Theme, better late than never.

Monday's Theme #5

I'm a bit late with Monday's Theme this week, but I've been busy writing. Thank Goddess, had a battle with writer's block last week, but I'm back in the saddle again. So, the theme for this week is:

In our society of consumerism we often forget to be thankful for the blessings that we have as it seems we never have enough. Stop and think about what you are thankful for. What have you been blessed with in this life? Write a poem, story, or essay about Gratitude and leave your link in a comment.

Have a great week!

Saturday Free For All #4

Today, I'm going to post one of my favorite poems and pick some words out of it for you to use in your piece...

by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Okay, I'm going to pick six words, and you choose any three to write your piece around, or if you like use all six.

Pretty, fashion, woman, mystery, smile, and proud.

K, don't forget to comment and leave your link!

Saturday Free For All #3

This is my photo prompt for today. I'm not sure why I picked this one, it just kind of grabbed my attention. I have no idea where I found it, it was just on my computer, so if this is your image, please let me know so I can give you proper credit.

Happy writing!

Oh, and thank you Paisley who found where this picture came from...

Feeding Pets of the Homeless

I know I'm late posting today's prompt, and I will get to it sometime today. You'll have to forgive me, my youngest was in the ER all last night with an allergic reaction to something, so I'm very tired. After a nap, I'll post the prompt.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!

A Random Prompt

I'm in a much better mood today than I have been. Still not at 100%, but better. So, I decided to offer a random prompt:

What cheers you up? When you're feeling down, what do you do to pull yourself out of the rut? Write about it, in poetry, a short story, essay, whatever you please. Then please leave your link in a comment. Thanks!

I know there's a lot of prompts every week, so I was hesitant to post this one, but decided to anyway.

Monday's Theme #3

It took me a while to come up with the theme this week. I've been in a depressed funk so I haven't been feeling so creative.

So, in keeping with my mood this week's theme is Grief/Loss. It's not a very uplifting theme, but it's a theme.

A Question

Can anyone tell me how to get Mr. Linky on my blog?

My Free For All

I don't know if it is 'proper etiquette' to participate in your own writing prompts, but I'm going to do so anyway. This is the poem I came up with after pondering this picture. It is called Beautiful, because I happen to find this old woman to be stunning.

Beauty is not a fad
Nor dictated by runway models
In desperate need of a cheeseburger.
Beauty is in these eyes
That have seen so much
Each wrinkle that tells
Its own tale, beauty is in
This soul that radiates
Wisdom and peace.
Beauty is in the moment
She finds to pause in her chores
And have a smoke.

Beauty is not a fad,
Nor dictated by shiny
Fashion magazines with their
Anorexic waifs staring at the camera
With dead eyes.
Beauty is this woman,
Dark skin, sparse white hair,
Blemishes and all.
Can you read between the lines,
See the glorious splendor etched
Into every crease of her face?
Can you see the wonder of her soul?

Links and My Other Blogs

Slowly but surely I've been building this blog. I've been adding links to other writing prompt sites, other writing blogs, and soon to come, personal blogs I love. They are not yet complete lists as I have not made requests to everyone I want to add to it yet, and I'm waiting for responses from others. If you are a regular reader of any of my blogs and would like to be added to my blogroll, just leave a comment. All that I ask is that you link to at least one of my blogs in return.

I hope to attract many new writers to this blog, so if you participate in it, please spread the word. The more writers that participate the better.

For those of you who don't know of all my other blogs here is a complete list:

Change in Plans

Okay, one of my readers commented on the fact that there are already two sites that offer words to craft a piece around, so I'm not going to do that on Thursdays. Instead, I'm going to offer Saturday Free For All, which will be a mish mash of things. Sometimes a picture prompt, sometimes a few words, sometimes a sentence to use in your piece, and I was also thinking of writing a very short scene for you to finish. I'm sure I'll come up with other things along the way too.

Thank you to those who have participated so far!

And again, welcome to Jane's Insipirations!

Monday's Theme #1

Okay, even though I'm not done with the site, I couldn't wait to get started. So, this is how it stands now. On Mondays I will be posting the theme of the week, called 'Monday's Theme.' Thursdays will be called 'The Thursday 3' and you will be offered three words with which to construct your piece around. And, mabye on Saturdays I will be posting an image prompt, but I haven't decided for sure yet.

So, Monday's Theme this week is:

Random Beauty*

The rules are to write your poem, short story, essay, whatever, then leave a comment with a link to your post so everyone can read it.

Happy Writing!

P.S. If you would like me to post your link leave me a comment and let me know. I'll be posting links to the blogs I read regularly, but to anyone else who wants to be on my blog roll: Ask and ye shall receive!

*Yes, I changed the prompt slightly for those of you who have already been here.

Jane's Inspirations

Welcome to my very own writing prompt website. It is still under construction and I'm deciding what days I will offer prompts, so forgive me if it takes a while to officially get it up and running. I hope that my readers will find lots of inspiration here. I welcome all writers to participate, and I will also be posting my own pieces on Jane's Writing.

So, wish me luck getting it set up and hopefully I will be offering inspiration soon!
